Cheap Holidays That Won’t Break The Bank

Stunning destinations for travelling on a budget, from culture and architecture to partying and gorgeous beaches, you don’t have to spend a fortune

You can’t talk about cheap holidays without mentioning Prague! With cobbled, winding streets and castles for days, Prague is known as one of the prettiest cities in the world. The popular Old Town Square might be slightly pricier than elsewhere in the city, but you’d honestly be amazed at how little you’ll spend on a holiday there. It’s also known as one of the safest places to travel to, with an incredibly low crime rate.

It’s all easy to walk around so no need to pay for taxis, you can wander the streets from the famous dancing house and Charles Bridge to the John Lennon graffiti wall and even the zoo! But if all that doesn’t make you want to go, then maybe the cheap alcohol and bar crawls alongside the historic churches and landmarks will convince you. It convinced me anyway, because I’ll be there in a few weeks’ time!

Krakow or Warsaw are beautiful places that have so much life and character to them. The cute towns and streets with colourful and traditional buildings make them such charming places to go to. I’ve heard amazing things about the nightlife there as a newer addition to the cities known for parties. I feel like it’s a much better option for partying compared to somewhere like Malaga because here there’s so much to do and see! It’s rich with history and you absolutely HAVE to go to Auschwitz while you’re there and learn about the history of it from WW2. An unforgettable place and as a whole, one of my favourite destinations I’ve ever been to.

Quality and variety is everywhere in Berlin, with insane architecture and culture and an amazing atmosphere for music festivals and partying. Flights are the cheapest I’ve ever seen and when you’re there you’ll be shocked at what you can get for your money. With how incredible the buildings are you’ll never be able to put your camera down. And while you’re there, be sure to go to the Olympic Stadium and one of the many historic sights and museums before spending the night in the huge clubs and bars.

Any Game of Thrones fans out there?

Croatia is one of the places that I think has something for everyone to love. If it’s peace and relaxation you want, then there are so many gorgeous islands with enormous stretches of beaches to enjoy. But if it’s culture or partying you want, then it’s literally a few minutes away. While walking the streets of Game of Thrones in Dubrovnik sounds incredible, it is more expensive there than the other towns. But, if you can afford to spend a little bit extra then it’s well worth it to see the amazing streets that it was filmed in. Then head straight to Split or Hvar to be immersed in culture, as well as the new hotspots for clubbers to dance the night away surrounded by gorgeous landscapes and beaches with coral reefs and caves.

Is anyone else singing that George Ezra song right now too? Anyway, I always thought that Budapest would be expensive, but it turns out it’s really not at all! The thermal baths are top of my list to go to there, as well as exploring the extravagant buildings and cathedrals. It’s a city with so much character that you could spend days just walking around in awe of the place and soaking up the atmosphere.

While this may be an extremely touristy place to go, the exchange rate means that everything is so much cheaper than other popular destinations. Renowned for street food, full moon parties and insane beaches. You can literally buy a meal for under £1 there! It’s basically got everything going for it. It’s a bit further away so yes the flights will be more expensive than the others on this list but it’s still on here because as soon as you get there you’ll barely spend anything. Accommodation is so affordable but still really nice and there’s so much to explore. Top of my list is the Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn.

Canary Islands

I thought I’d end with a traditional beach and sun destination. So, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote…take your pick! I’ve literally found flights for around £20 to these destinations! For some reason pretty much everywhere in Spain is so cheap! Spain is definitely well known for its gorgeous sandy beaches and scorching weather so you’d never be disappointed. Some people spend so much on beach holidays, when you can go to the Canary Islands for such a little amount and spend all day sunbathing on the golden beaches.

This is a really good post as it covers a lot of ground quickly to give a flavour of each destination without going into too much detail (which can be researched afterwards if someone is keen to follow up). Reading your post makes me think that perhaps this is the problem I have: my posts are too long, go into far too much detail are are probably off-putting! You have some great photos also!

    • July 31, 2018 / 7:32 pm

Thanks! I bet yours aren’t too long, I normally write much longer posts but I just tried not to ramble too much in this one haha! What’s your blog, I’ll check it out? x

These are places I would probably have never thought about for travel, very non-traditional, but they are beautiful! I never realized they were that reasonable in cost! Thank you for sharing this information.

    • July 31, 2018 / 7:33 pm

Yeah I know, me neither until recently! Sometimes some of the most beautiful places to travel to aren’t ones that are really well known! What’s your blog?

Great list. I haven’t been to some of these places and your post is busting a few myths on the economical side. My budget destination is Armenia. Great place, absolutely beautiful, lovely people, tasty traditional food and dirt cheap to travel and do day trips & activities.

    • August 6, 2018 / 1:03 pm

Armenia looks incredible! Quite far for me to get to but I bet it’s so cheap once you’re there!

  12. August 6, 2018 / 3:42 pm

I love love love this post! I am going to Prague in September and this has made me super excited now! Warsaw is unbelievably beautiful and the food there is amazing, so definitely a great place on your list! I lived in Tenerife for 15 years myself and I couldn’t recommend it enough. It can get quite pricey in the south of the island, especially in the tourist places, but there are always hidden gems everywhere 🙂

    Thanks for sharing x

    • August 6, 2018 / 3:49 pm

Thanks! I’m going to Prague tomorrow and I can’t wait! Yeah Warsaw just sounds amazing, I really want to go at some point soon! I’m jealous that you got to live in Tenerife, that would be incredible! Although I don’t think I could deal with the heat for so long haha! x
